Terms for reviewers
Last updated 25 October 2026
Draft prepared 25 October 2026; awaiting review by a solicitor.
These terms apply when you write a review on GoldStarred, whether you come from an invitation email, a review link, or your own account. Questions go to hello@goldstarred.com.
1. What a review should be
A review is your honest account of a real experience with a business, product, software, course or service. Please write it in your own words and say what happened. You do not need an account to answer an invitation. A secure link in the email is enough.
2. Rules for reviewers
You must not:
- write a review of a business you own, work for, or are related to, or of a competitor;
- post a review for payment, a gift or any other reward without saying so;
- post a review on behalf of someone else, or more than one review of the same experience;
- include other people's personal details, threats, hate speech or content that is unlawful;
- say things about a person or business that you know to be untrue.
If you were offered something in return for your review, tell us. The review will then be labelled Incentivised, and being open about it is always better than leaving it out.
3. How your review is labelled
Every review shows whether it is Verified or Unverified, then how it arrived, then whether it was incentivised, so readers can judge it:
- Verified: the business invited you and gave us an order reference for your purchase. The business supplies the reference and we cannot check it against its records.
- Unverified: every other review. It has not been shown to be false.
- Invited: the business invited you to review.
- Organic: you found the business and reviewed it yourself.
- Imported: the review was brought in from another source.
- Incentivised: a reward was offered or given.
How we decide is on our How we verify reviews page.
4. Checks and moderation
New reviews pass through automatic checks. A review the checks find suspicious may be held for a person to look at before it appears. We email you a statement of reasons when that happens. A check never removes a review; only a person can, and we tell you why. Businesses can flag reviews and reply to them publicly, but they cannot remove, hide or reorder your review. Flagging never hides a review automatically. We may ask you for evidence of your experience, for example an order confirmation. Details are on our moderation page.
5. Your review stays yours
You own what you write. By posting it you give GoldStarred a free, non-exclusive, worldwide licence to publish, display and share it, including in a business's widget and in search results, for as long as it is published. You can edit or delete your own review at any time, with the secure link in the email we send when you post, or from Your reviews after you sign in. Deleting it removes it from public view at once. We keep a limited record of it, not shown to anyone, for 90 days, to deal with a complaint, to prevent abuse or to meet a legal duty, and then purge it.
6. When we remove a review
We may remove or refuse a review that breaks these terms or our fake review policy, or that we are legally required to remove. We email you the reason. If you disagree, write to hello@goldstarred.com and we will look at the decision again.
7. Reporting a review
Anyone can report a review from the review itself, and the person who reports it is told the outcome. When a business flags your review or someone reports it, we email you, tell you what was said and give you a chance to respond. The review stays public while a person decides. If a review is about you or your business and you believe it is defamatory, see our complaints and takedown page.
8. Your data
Our privacy policy explains what we collect and why. In short, we use your name and email to run the service and prevent abuse, and we do not sell personal data.
9. Our responsibility
We do not write reviews and are not responsible for the opinions in them. We take reasonable steps to keep the platform trustworthy, but cannot guarantee that every review is accurate. Nothing in these terms limits any right you have as a consumer, or liability that cannot lawfully be limited.
10. Changes and law
We may update these terms. The version on this page is the one that applies. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you live elsewhere in the UK you can also use the courts where you live.
